Event information
Step up 4 Christchurch is a great way to support those in Christchurch from 12,000 miles away. You can take part by running or walking up the 1,037 steps over 38 floors, or by taking the lift to the 40th floor of London’s iconic "Gherkin" (almost 180 metres above the street below). You can also support the event by joining us for a New Zealand-flavoured family day with entertainment, live music, food, drink and more, all in support of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
While the charity stair climb continues throughout the day the piazza at the base of "The Gherkin” will be a hub of activity creating a vibrant and social environment for participants and their family and friends.
We want to create a day to remember for all our participants and everyone that takes part in the stair climb will receive:
- A ‘goodie bag’ including event t-shirt
- An officially recorded time
- A glass of celebratory champagne or fruit juice
- A digital photograph at level 40
- A unique experience on level 40 for sightseeing and photos
At registration, each participant will be asked to make a donation of £25 per adult or £10 per child to run or walk. A donation of £25 per adult or £30 for a family (one adult and their children) will also be requested to take the lift.
We will also be running a team challenge – join up in teams of four adults (single or mixed) with colleagues or clients and see who comes out on top.
Upon registration, we ask for all participants to commit to raising funds and to pledge to raise a certain sum for the Step Up 4 Christchurch Appeal. The target for each participant is to commit to raising at least £1,037 – £1 for every step climbed! (although participants may pledge to raise a greater or lesser amount).
After registration and on the day of the event, each participant will be advised of a specific time throughout the day that they will need to be ready to either run, walk or take the lift to the top of the building. It is important that participants arrive at least 45 minutes before this time as the stairs and lifts can only cater for a portion of the participants at any time.
